What does not keep you awake
While the following may increase your alertness for a few seconds or minutes, they will not stop you from falling asleep at the wheel.
- Opening the windows
- Stopping the car and going for a walk
- Taking a break (without a Power Nap)
- Listening to the radio/ cassette
- Playing loud music
- Talking to passengers
- Turning up the air conditioning
- Performing hand, arm or leg exercises while driving
- Stretching
- Chewing gum
- Smoking
- Consuming soft drinks and other non caffeinated beverages.
- Consuming snacks
- Slapping or pinching yourself
- Washing your face with cold water
- Singing
- Talking on the mobile phone
- Changing the vehicle temperature
- Pulling off the road to eat a meal
- Screaming
- Slapping the face
