' Four die returning from funeral '

A FAMILY has been left devastated after four cousins were killed in a Kapiti Coast car accident on their way back from the funeral of another family member.

The four were Maureen Hill, 66, of Johnsonville, Marie Field, 75, of Johnsonville, Joyce Adams, 63, and her husband Roy Adams, 65, of Miramar. They were cousins of Betty McDowell, whose husband Neil died suddenly in Wanganui Hospital last week.
Neil "Mac" Dowell, 59, was a founding member of the 40-plus Ulysses motorbike club. The four had attended his funeral that morning, before leaving Wanganui for a three-hour drive home. Betty McDowell, at home last night was "dumbfounded" at the crash.
Porirua police said a Toyota Corolla, believed to have been driven by Joyce Adams, crossed the center line on a road south of Paekakariki and collided with a northbound Toyota Hilux utility. The three women died at the scene. The Hilux driver was taken to Wellington Hospital and was said to be in a serious condition yesterday.
